According to Article II of the Bylaws of Clan Sinclair Association Inc. (USA),
Section 1: Membership shall be open to all that bear the surname Sinclair, or any of it's Septs or adherents and their descendants, regardless of spelling, and persons having such surname on the female side and the descendants of such persons. Any person or family and their descendants who by traditional heritage owes allegiance to Clan Sinclair are also eligible for membership.
Section 2: There are four classes of membership in this association: Regular Membership, Sponsoring Membership, Life Membership and Honorary Membership.
Section 3: Regular Memberships are individuals,spouse and children under 18 living at same residence.
Section 4: Sponsoring Memberships are those who qualify for regular membership and pay annual dues that exceed the amount specified for regular membership and as established by the Board of Governors.
Section 5: Life Memberships are those who purchase a lifetime Membership by paying a one time fee. The dues structure for Life Membership shall be set by the Board of Governors.
Section 6: Honorary Memberships may be conferred by the President of the Association on his own, or on proposal, to individuals of remarkable distinction and/or who have preformed outstanding services to the association. No dues shall be required for such memberships.
Section 7: An applicant for membership in this association must submit an application in writing to the President or to any Commissioner and upon approval by the President and/or Secretary/Treasurer and payment of dues, shall become a member in full standing and shall possess all rights and privileges of the Association. Any questions on an applicant's eligibility will be submitted to the Board of Governors for interpretation. Certificates of membership shall be issued to new members by the President.
Section 8: Dues shall be assessed on an annual basis on the birth month of the member. The dues rate shall be set by the Board of Governors.

To clarify Section 8: An application for membership may be made at any time. The Secretary/Treasurer will remind a current member of the annual renewal before the birth month of the member.
